Team Saint Martin top of the rankings at Sister Islands Basketball Tournament

MARIGOT — On May 15 and 16, the Jean-Louis Vanterpool Stadium Sports Hall hosted the first edition of the Sister Islands Basketball Tournament (SIBT), an international U18 men's tournament organized by the Northern Islands Territorial Basketball Committee, with the support of the Center of Excellence and Education through Sport (CEES) and the Territorial Fund for School Activities (CTOS).

Designed as a flagship event for youth basketball development in the Caribbean, the tournament brought together eight U18 delegations from partner territories: Saint-Martin, Anguilla, Guadeloupe, Tortola, the United States, Martinique, Sint Maarten, and Saint-Eustache.

Over two days of competition, the young athletes competed in a format combining group stages and knockout matches, following a framework inspired by the regulations of FIBA. The tournament offered an exciting level of play while highlighting promising young talents.

Beyond the sporting results, the event demonstrated a broader ambition: to use sport as a lever for youth development, strengthen regional cooperation, and promote pathways to excellence across the Caribbean.

The Sister Islands Basketball Tournament thus establishes itself as a platform for social cohesion, openness, and territorial influence, strengthening the common commitment of local stakeholders to make Saint-Martin a leading territory for youth sports development in the region.

Driven by the enthusiasm of the delegations, spectators, and partners, the organizers are already planning to make the event a permanent fixture, with the next edition scheduled for 2027.
